It is officially the holiday season, and is time to start decorating your apartment! Decorating an apartment takes a little more thought and care, as you have limited space, and likely share your outdoor area. Continue reading for a few tips on how you can decorate even the smallest apartment for the holidays!

Christmas Tree

For those who celebrate Christmas, you know how much space trees take up in the living room, and you may not have that much open space in a small apartment. While you may not be able to chop down a fully grown tree and take it home, there are many other options! Look for stores that sell smaller trees that are much easier to find space for, or opt for a fake tree this year. Fake trees can look very real, especially when decorating with ornaments and lights. To get that real tree smell, buy a pine-scented candle to fill your whole apartment with the holiday scent!

DIY Decorations

Buying presents for loved ones is a wonderful way to show your appreciation, but it also means you’ll be spending more money this month. To avoid spending too much money this holiday season, remember that you don’t have to always buy decor- you can make them yourself! Have a DIY night with friends making holiday decorations with simple crafts you may already have. For example, a mason jar snow globe is the perfect festive decor piece and only uses a jaw, glitter, and glue. Or build a wreath by attaching a loop or floral wire around a Styrofoam wreath ring, and hot glue bows to the ring and hang on your door.

Lights

Lights are one of the easiest ways to transform your apartment into a cozy and festive place for the holidays. Use string lights in your living room to add some holiday cheer, or twinkling lights for a beautiful effect. If you have an outdoor area or are able to decorate your windows from the outside, line the windows with white, silver, or colorful lights. If you can’t decorate from the outside, a candle on the windowsill has a similar effect! Be sure to use fake candles to avoid any accidents.
