It can be a conundrum when you want to add delightful hanging plants to your apartment balcony, but you don’t really have a lot of time to manage daily watering and regular care such as fertilizing and trimming. Thankfully, succulents are excellent low-maintenance plants that will add some fun and interest to your apartment balcony. Hanging succulents will bring the whimsy and visual interest your balcony needs to be the talk of the town.
Burro’s Tail is one of the most popular hanging succulent plants, also making it easy to find and inexpensive to purchase. This succulent is closely related to Donkey’s Tail (Sedum Morganianum) with the only real difference being that Burro’s Tail does not grow as long as Donkey’s Tail does. Donkey’s Tail will grow up to 4 feet long, while Burro’s Tail grows up to around 3.3 feet long.
The Trailing Jade is a beautiful green in summer and spring, but changes to purple in winter. It also has stunning orange winter blooms, which can brighten up the inside of your apartment when other plants have gone dormant. This plant can reach up to 4 feet in length.
String of Pearls
The String of Pearls is one of the smaller hanging succulent plants, maxing out a mere 12 inches, or 1 foot in length. This is another common succulent plant that is easy to acquire and grow. It features small, ball-shaped leaves on long, thin stems which is where it gets its name. It features small white blooms from spring through fall, making it a cheerful addition to any space.
String of Hearts
If you want a plant with a lot of visual interest, the String of Hearts is a great option. This unique succulent has thin, heart-shaped leaves that are variegated on top and purple underneath. It can grow up to 3 feet long, creating a beautiful cascade of its heart-shaped leaves.
Mezoo Trailing Red
The Mezoo Trailing Red is another succulent plant that has a lot of visual interest. The leaves are green with a very light green edging and this plant can produce vivid red blooms from June through October. While this plant only gets to around 2 feet long, its growth is very dense so it will still produce a lot of plant to love.
